About me

Hello! My name is Layni. I grew up on the sunny California coast, where throughout my childhood I had almost every pet you could ever think of: dogs, cats, rabbits, birds, fish, reptiles, chinchillas, other rodents, spiders, and more. Since I’ve moved out on my own and gone all the way to the opposite coast, I’ve adopted two adorable cats and a fish with a huge personality. I live in Silver Spring with my partner and all of our pets. I spend most of my free time knitting, painting, playing with my cats, going on walks, and playing Mario Kart.

As a pet sitter my goal is to make sure your pet gets the best care possible regardless of their temperment, health concerns, age, etc. I also strive to make sure you as the pet parent have the easiest experience possible. If you book with me your pet will get a minimum of 30 minutes of uninterrupted care and attention per visit. You can be certain I will follow all care instructions down to the letter, even if it’s something other sitters may find weird, like singing a song while serving your pets’ dinner (my own cats won’t eat without their special song). I also leave every home I visit cleaner than when I arrived. You will never have to come home to litter on the floor or pet food left on the counter.

I am ALAT certified, pet first aid/CPR certified, a non-smoker, and have my own transportation.

Professional Experience and Medical Expertise

I have worked in a cat hotel where I cared for around 80 cats a day including feeding, grooming, cleaning up after, and administering medication. After that I worked as an animal technician and vet tech working with rodents and fish. Here I learned ever more about veterinary medicine and animal handling. Most recently I worked on the back end of veterinary medicine, where I analyzed blood and urine samples to help diagnose illness in pets.

Due to my plethora of experience, I can administer oral, topical, and injectable medications, along with inhalers. I also know how to look out for medical complications in a variety of species. I am completely comfortable taking care of elderly and special needs pets.
